چکیده

Labeled long chain acyl-CoA, aldehyde, and alcohol (16:0) were incubated in the peritoneal cavity of mice bearing Ehrlich ascites cells and the distribution of radioactivity in the acyl, alkyl, and alk-1-enyl moieties of various neutral lipid and phospholipid classes was compared. The results suggested the following metabolic relations. 1. Alkyl glyceryl ethers are precursors of alk-l-enyl glyceryl ethers. Alk-I-enyl acyl phosphoglycerides (plasmalogens) appear to be derived from intact alkyl acyl phosphoglycerides by biodehydrogenation. 2. Fatty acids are precursors of long chain alcohols that serve as precursors of alkyl glyceryl ethers. 3. Aldehydes are less effective precursors of plasmalogens than alcohols. They are oxidized primarily to acids and to a lesser extent are reduced to alcohols. 4. Fatty acids are elongated but the saturated acids are not desaturated to the corresponding monoenoic acids in this neoplasm. 5. Comparison of the data from the three labeled substrates suggests an interrelation that explains how each substrate was incorporated into glyceryl ethers.

Mapping of global R1 and R2* values versus lipids R1 values as potential markers of hypoxia in human glial tumors: A feasibility study.

Availability of an innocuous and repeatable technique for monitoring tumor oxygenation throughout therapeutic course should be a key factor for adaptative therapeutic strategies. We previously qualified lipids R1 as a marker of oxygen level on experimental tumor models. The objectives of the present study were to assess the applicability of measuring lipids R1 in primary central nervous system ...

Effects of Persian leek (Allium ampeloprasum) on hepatic lipids and the expression of proinflammatory gene in hamsters fed a high-fat/ high-cholesterol diet

Objective: Persian leek is one of the most widely used herbal foods among Iranians. In this study, effects of oral administration of Persian leek on plasma and liver lipids were examined in hamster. Materials and Methods: Male Syrian hamsters were randomly divided into three groups: control (standard diet), high fat control (high-fat/high-cholesterol diet), Persian leek (high-fat/high-cholester...

Role of whole-body lipids and nitrogen as limiting factors for survival in tumor-bearing mice with anorexia and cachexia.

This study was designed to ascertain whether the overall availability of whole-body lipids and nitrogen is a limiting factor for survival in tumor-bearing mice suffering from anorexia and cachexia. Three-month-old nongrowing mice (C57BL/6J) were given s.c. transplants of a methylcholanthrene-induced sarcoma. Freely fed, starved, and pair-fed animals were used. Body and lipid composition, tumor ...

Hemorrhage in mouse tumors induced by dodecaborate cluster lipids intended for boron neutron capture therapy

The potential of boron-containing lipids with three different structures, which were intended for use in boron neutron capture therapy, was investigated. All three types of boron lipids contained the anionic dodecaborate cluster as the headgroup. Their effects on two different tumor models in mice following intravenous injection were tested; for this, liposomes with boron lipid, distearoyl phos...

Ehrlich ascites tumor cell surface membranes: an abnormality in ether lipid content.

Most mammalian neoplasms have a defect in ether lipid content manifested by the presence of abnormally large quantities of 0-alkyl glyceryl ethers, in contrast to normal tissues in which the alk-1-enyl structure predominates. These lipids are for the most part structural. The manner in which tumor cell plasma membranes differ from normal may be important, and it has been hitherto unclear whethe...

Is R1 of Lipids related to pO2? Lessons from two tumor models

Introduction: Tumor hypoxia is acknowledged as a major factor of resistance of solid tumors to treatment. Improving tumor oxygenation at the time of treatment could lead to an improved response to both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Variations in T1 and T2* are potentially valuable MRI tools to follow changes in tumor oxygenation. T2* is sensitive to the relative Hb/HbO2 ratio in vessel , while...
